LEYLAND PAINTS A RACING MASTERPIECE!

Leyland's ‘Mad About Colour’ slogan came to life in spectacular fashion recently after its range of eye-catching colours helped bring a stunning piece of art bursting to life. Artist Ian Cook creates jaw-dropping pieces using only the tyres of model cars and was recently commissioned by oil and car care company, Comma, in association with MSV race circuits to conjure up an eye-catching and innovative piece of art to be unveiled at leading motorsport venue Brands Hatch. The artwork was designed to launch a £2million motorsport ticket giveaway by Comma. Leyland's hugely successful sponsorship of leading British Touring Car Championship team Airwaves BMW caught Ian's eye and he was compelled to include the colourful car, which includes Leyland's attention-grabbing splashes of colour, on his awe-inspiring collage, which was completed to impressive dimensions of 10m x 5m. Never ones to shy away from a daring project, Leyland happily donated 30 litres of Leyland Rave and Knight's Rose paint so Ian could make his vision become a reality. Ian completed 95% of the project in his personal studio before adding the finishing flourishes at Brands Hatch, where real vehicles, including a Comma F2 car, a Caterham R300, a racing bike and a six tonne 1000bhp British racing truck, were used to drive over the canvas in different directions, spreading paint with their tyres to add an abstract finish to the background. Speaking about his unique approach to art, Ian said: “The idea was sparked two years ago after I was bought a remote control car for Christmas. Ever since then I have tried to fully utilise the wheels of these cars to help bring my artistic vision to fruition. “I've been aware of Leyland’s colourful sponsorship of Airwaves BMW and had little hesitation in approaching them to provide the wide range of colours needed to help bring this project to life. The artwork took over 40 hours to produce and was a unique project for me because the cars featured in the image were actually used to create the piece – the first time this has been done. To top it off the weather was glorious allowing the paint to dry perfectly!” Leyland Brand Manager Nicki Hickman said: “We were delighted to add a splash of colour to this exciting project. Not only because it highlights how broad the colour solutions provided by Leyland are, but it also strengthens our already solid relationship with the high-octane world of motorsport. Our consumer presence has grown incredibly since undertaking our sponsorship of Airwaves BMW and long may it continue!”

MURAL DESIGN A ROARING SUCCESS THANKS TO LEYLAND

Leyland Trade has once again highlighted its thrilling colour credentials after its wide range of imaginative colours helped a creative mural designer transform the exterior of a Norwich children's centre into a vibrant and eye-catching jungle-inspired design. Leyland's vast array of colour combinations caught the attention of Brian Korteling, who had been commissioned by the Sure Start Children’s Centre in Lakenham to design and paint a vivid mural which would capture the imagination of the young children. After discovering Leyland's extensive colour options through his own internet research Brian then went along to his local Johnstone's Leyland Decorating Centre and, thanks to the unrivalled customer service offered by the Decorating Centre staff, left with striking colours, including Glory Days, Empire Green and Autumn Chestnut, to ensure his mural would come to life in spectacular fashion. Brian said: “After searching for the ideal colour combination for the mural design, I was struck by Leyland’s fantastic range. I required colours that would bring the best out of the mural and really engage with the children and I feel that Leyland's products and colours helped me to achieve this. The mural has received a wonderful response from everyone associated with the children’s centre and I’m looking forward to making a start on the next one.” Nicki Hickman, Leyland Brand Manager, added: “Colour has long played an integral role in the success of Leyland and we were thrilled to be able to assist Brian in creating such a vibrant mural for the Sure Start Centre. With our colour expertise and free colour tinting service, there really is nothing Leyland doesn’t have covered when it comes to colour.”

INSPIRED NAME PAYS OFF FOR RACING FAN!

A racing enthusiast is celebrating after his suggestion of Tintop was picked as the winner in Leyland's The Can With No Name! competition. Professional tradespeople and BTCC fans were tasked with choosing the best name for Leyland's new racing mascot and with so many inspiring and creative entries it proved a tricky task for judges to pick out the best. Paul Suttie, a retired civil servant from Oldham, was eventually selected as the lucky winner and has now got his hands on an exclusive pair of VIP tickets to a BTCC round of his choice. His prize includes two full days of hospitality with the Leyland-sponsored Airwaves BMW team, including a tour of the garages and a grid walk, as well as the opportunity to get up close and personal with the drivers and support crew. For a self-confessed racing nut like Paul, it really is the dream prize! Vaughan Dee, from Lichfield, came a close second with his entry of Tinty and has bagged himself an exclusive Motorbase Performance and Leyland Racing jacket that will ensure he stands out at future BTCC meets. Leyland brand manager Nicki Hickman, who had the unenviable task of picking the winner, said: “The response to this competition was just incredible, highlighting how much of an impact Leyland and its assorted activities have captured the imagination of race fans up and down the country. We had some fantastic suggestions, but in the end Tintop really stood out as it was exactly the catchy and creative name our cheeky new mascot deserves!” Tintop will be strutting his stuff at BTCC weekends throughout the season so keep your eyes peeled and if you’re lucky, he might let you have your picture taken with him!

Leyland premiere at the Royal College of Art

Never known to shun the spotlight leading trade paint brand Leyland has helped transform a bare exhibition space into a brooding and atmospheric setting at the Royal College of Art in London. The college was hosting a three-week exhibition displaying the work of pioneering artist and filmmaker, John Smith, whose influential work explores representations of reality and fiction within film and required a product and, more importantly, colour that would give the 1600 square metre space a distinctly ‘noir’ makeover. After being struck by Leyland's recent campaigns, students at the college approached the brand to assist in conjuring up an immersive environment in which the visual and audio art could be fully appreciated - and in typical Leyland style the space received an Oscar-worthy makeover. Thanks to the dedicated staff at the Johnstone's Leyland Decorating Centre in Kingston, the college received its donation of 100 litres of black Vinyl Matt in plenty of time for them to give the space its much-needed spruce up. Carmen Billows from the Curating Contemporary Art department said: “The black emulsion paint supplied by Leyland was used throughout the galleries to black out screening spaces for several of the film works. This helped to make the films more luminous and created a space where no distraction could influence the viewer's impression of the film.” Leyland Brand Manager Nicki Hickman added: “We are more than happy that we could assist the college and its students in this fantastic visual project that Leyland's product range complemented so well." Leyland's sister brand, Fat Hog, was also on hand to provide a wide range of professional decorating tools, including brushes and rollers from its Evolution range, to ensure that the project was completed in a swift fashion.

Sky's the limit for Leyland!

Leyland's heroic charity efforts for the recent Celebrity Karting Challenge at Autosport International will come under the national spotlight tomorrow (Thursday 27th January) as Sky Sports 3 takes an hour-long look at the colourful event. Leyland offered up an incredible 12 Leyland Lovelies to act as grid girls for the event and with all of them representing wildly imaginative colours from the Leyland colour card, including Velvetine Treat, Egyptian Sun and Lollipop, there will be no shortage of eye-catching outfits for viewers to look out for when the programme airs at 7pm. The race helped raise over £59,000 for Malaria No More UK, a charity which aims to ensure everyone at risk of malaria in Africa has access to a mosquito net by the end of 2010, and featured a legion of household names from Formula One, the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and World Rally Championship competing alongside members of the public.

Express your creative streak with Leyland

Leyland’s ‘The Can With No Name!’ competition is asking tradespeople across the UK to get their thinking caps on and suggest an eye-catching and fitting name for the mascot, which will be the lynchpin of the brand’s sponsorship of leading British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) team Motorbase Performance during 2010. Not only will the winning entry’s suggestion be used across Leyland’s BTCC marketing throughout the year, the lucky winner will also get their hands on a pair of VIP tickets to a BTCC round of their choice during the season. Leyland Rally up Support

Leyland Trade continues to support Help for Heroes through 2010 by donating £500 and the use of the Leyland Lovelies outfits to celebrity karting event ‘Race for Heroes’. The event will take place on 27th February 2010 at Daytona, Milton Keynes, a great international track. During the event approximately 70 celebrity drivers are taking part, such as, Paul O’Neill, Harry Vaulkhard, Stephen Jelley, Tom Onslon-Cole, Tim Bridgeman, Alice Powell, Sarah Moore and other non race celebs such as Shane Lynch (Boyzone), The Dirty Sanchez Boys, Tom Clarke (The Enemy) and Matt Croucher (Pride of Britain Award and Saint Georges Cross). The race is an endurance race over six hours and will be compered by the well- known motorsport commentator Richard Neil. The race started as a very small idea, to form an all girls endurance kart team to raise some money for Help for Heroes, however, the event has since snowballed and is now a major event with celebrity and championship drivers from just about every race series. This is not the first generous act of Leyland Trade, throughout 2009 Leyland undertook a raft of fundraising initiatives in a show of support to the charity, which aims to provide help for Armed Forces personnel who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflict, and recently handed over a cheque for over £3,500.

African Sun Shines for Leyland

The colour expertise of leading paint brand Leyland Trade has helped transform a previously bare exhibition space in London into a vibrant corner of Africa. Publishers Trolley Books needed to give the Shoreditch space an innovative and colourful makeover to support the launch and three-week exhibition of its successful new book Gentlemen of Bacongo, which is a celebration of a group of Congolese men called Sapeurs, who have a penchant for elegant attire brought to life by striking colours. The men’s vibrant clothes are in direct contrast to their living conditions and their approach acted as the inspiration behind fashion icon Paul Smith's latest collection. After being struck by Leyland's eye-catching Mad About Colour campaign in recent months, Trolley Books wasted little time in asking the creative paint brand to give the exhibition space a transformation to match the Sapeurs' outfits…and Leyland didn't disappoint! Making the most of imaginative colours from its range, such as Rave, Pure Passion and Kiwi, Leyland helped create a series of stunning backdrops bursting with colour to help bring the best out of an array of the book’s most visually arresting images.

The prize offered behind the scenes access to Motorbase Performance’s Porsche Carrera Cup GB team, which included a tour of the cars and the pit area, as well as the chance to meet Michael Caine, one of the drivers. Speaking after his luxury day at Brands Hatch, motorsport enthusiast Russell said: “The day at Brands was excellent! I took a neighbour of mine, who is a fellow motorsport nut, and we both had a great time. LEYLAND PROVES COLOUR CREDENTIALS IN BLACKPOOL

Leyland’s dedication to colour is as vibrant as ever after it helped provide an eye-catching mural for an overlooked corner of Blackpool. Local student Sofia Ali created the new wall design as part of the Civic Pride Initiative and staff at the brand new Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centre on Caunce Street in the town were only too happy to provide the 60 litres of paint needed to bring the colourful mural to life. Leyland’s passion for colour was tested to the extreme on the project, but with the help of imaginative colours like Kiwi, Egyptian Sun, Samba Soul, Pure Passion and Signal Red it was able to inject a splash of colour into Sofia’s design and help create a landmark that Blackpool residents can be proud of. Local businessman Andrew O’Neill and his decorating business Fine Lines Decorating Services Limited supported and co-ordinated the painting project, further enhancing the strong relationship between themselves and Leyland. “The colour options provided by Leyland were faultless and really helped bring the best out of what was already an inspiring design. We are thrilled with the outcome yet again from Leyland.” This project is further evidence that when it comes to colour, Leyland has it covered. Its in-store tinting services offer tradespeople the choice of thousands of colours in products from its extensive range, while the ColorXPress colour matching service utilises advanced technology to provide a perfect match to paint, fabric, wallpaper and even tiles.

LEYLAND MAKES A SPLASH AT BRANDS HATCH

Leyland’s eye-catching ‘Mad About Colour’ campaign has stepped up a gear as it lit up the final weekend of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Brands Hatch. Leyland’s sparkling campaign was hard to miss over the course of the weekend and it got off to a flier on the Saturday as six Leyland Lovelies wasted little time in making their mark. The cheeky six, who each represented a creative colour from the Leyland colour card, were on hand to officially start a charity run of the circuit by members of the BTCC paddock. The Lovelies made even more heads turn the following day as they helped spark interest in Leyland’s exclusive competition in which race-goers were encouraged to vote for their favourite colour, with two lucky winners getting their hands on an exclusive BMW M3 RaceMaster track day with one of the Airwaves BMW drivers. However, it wasn’t just in the paddock and stands where Leyland’s colourful presence was felt as three of the team’s cars, across both the BTCC and the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, were proudly emblazoned with Leyland’s freshest ‘Mad About Colour’ designs. Leyland brand manager Nicki Hickman said: “It was a fantastic end to what has been a wonderful season for both Leyland and Airwaves BMW/Motorbase Performance. Leyland has long been dedicated to providing professional tradespeople with imaginative colours and what better place to shout about than in front of 35,000 people and hundreds of thousands more watching on TV.”

Proud to shout about Leyland!

Loyal users of Leyland are not holding back when it comes to shouting about eye-catching projects where Leyland products have been used. White Rose Decorators wasted little time in suggesting the use of Leyland Vinyl Matt on a multi-million pound development in Bolton called Atlas Mills, while Fine Lines Decorating Services Ltd specified Truguard Pliolite for the 38-property Sunningdale Court in Blackpool. Leyland also went back to its roots to provide the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland, Lancashire with a much-needed makeover using Heavy Duty Floor Paint, but it was left to ScaryCat Studios in Bristol to showcase the most imaginative use of Leyland products.

Getting On With It for charity

It was the turn of soldiers from 21 Royal Engineer Regiment to get up close and personal with the Leyland Lovelies as the duo made an eye-catching appearance at Claro Barracks in Ripon.

Tasked with raising as much money as possible for the Help for Heroes charity, Tina and Pippa wasted little time in persuading the men and woman on camp to part with cash in exchange for one of their popular calendars, while life-sized posters of the pair were up for grabs in a raffle organised by Cpl Ali Burns.

Ali had previously completed a sky dive for the charity and with the help of Leyland she ensured her fundraising smashed the £2000 barrier!
