Leyland is delighted to announce that it has signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with leading racing outfit Motorbase Performance for the 2009 season.
The sponsorship package comes as Motorbase Performance gears up for its most ambitious campaign to date with its Airwaves BMW team competing in the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and its Motorbase outfit challenging for top spot in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
The deal sees Leyland branding and its established “GET ON WITH IT!” strapline on all five team cars, transporters and drivers' protective clothing as well as across the team's position in the pit lane in both competitions. The stunning Leyland Lovelies will also be on hand at every BTCC event as the official Airwaves BMW grid girls to provide a touch of glamour amongst the grease and fumes.
The new partnership was officially unveiled at the BTCC’s media day at Rockingham race circuit in Northamptonshire where the national and motorsport press joined over 1100 fans to see the cars, sponsors and driver line-ups for the first time ahead of the curtain raiser at Brands Hatch on April 5th.
Following its inception in 1958 the BTCC has grown to become Britain's foremost motor racing spectacle. The season comprises ten events at top circuits across the UK and is contested by professional racing drivers in competition versions of every day road cars. With over 325,000 fans watching trackside each year and a newly announced ITV coverage package of over 100 hours, it has phenomenal public appeal with viewing figures expected to reach 1.8 million this season.
Leyland brand manager Nicki Hickman said: “We are delighted to have signed this deal to become official sponsors of Airwaves BMW and are relishing the prospect of Leyland’s brand ethos of delivering honest, trusted and reliable products reaching a wider audience. The BTCC is an incredibly popular event and a real high point on the British sporting calendar and it is an honour to be associated with it.”
Airwaves BMW team principal David Bartrum said: “We are delighted to have such a prestigious brand on board with us for what promises to be yet another action-packed BTCC campaign. It’s a vibrant and exciting brand and they have wasted little time slotting into the Airwaves BMW spirit…we’re a match made in heaven! We are very grateful for their support and we hope they will be able to share in a very successful season for Airwaves BMW in 2009."
